Good questions
Before you begin.
Are there red flags?
Promises of a cure, guaranteed results, fast fixes or the use of pain, fear or intimidation are warning signs.
Do I need a veterinarian first?
For pain, medication or sudden changes, yes. A trainer cannot diagnose or treat medical problems.
Is a certification enough?
Credentials help, but ask about methods too. The title alone does not tell you how a dog is treated.
Should I watch a session?
Ask whether you can. A trainer who works well with worried dogs should be open about how they work.
